One of the organisations that puts life into Ashburton today is the local radio station, Port FM. Started by Brent Birchfield in 1995, "Ashburton's Port Fm Local" is one of the stations of the Port Fm Music Network, which operates stations in Ashburton, Timaru, Oamaru and Greymouth.

"Ashburton's Port FM Local" begins the day at 5am with an hour long rural show that is of particular interest to the early risers in the rural community. The rural show is followed by "The Region's Big Breakfast" with O.J and Kirsty.

From 10 am to 3 pm, "Ashburton"s Port Fm Local" is broadcast live and local with Megan. 3pm to 7pm is drive time with James; and you can enjoy wall-to-wall music throughout the night.

Saturday morning, tune in to the sports breakfast with John from 7 till 9; followed by local information with Megan, through till Midday. You can listen to Ashburton's Port Fm Local throughout Mid Canterbury and beyond on 94.9FM and in the town area on 98.9FM.
