MEAD MOTORS LTD
Dave Mead has spent 45 years of his working
life servicing motor vehicles. He did
his motor mechanic apprenticeship in Nelson
with Wright Stephensons. After he
came out of his apprenticeship Dave joined
the Ministry of works working on all kinds
of vehicles including bulldozers. He spent
2 years overseas working on motor vehicles.
He was 20 years as the workshop
foreman for the Ministry Works based in
Tinwald on Maronan Road. When the Ministry
works closed down Dave and his wife
Pauline formed Mead Motors and he
worked for 5 years in the former MOW
workshop.
In 1996 they got the opportunity
to purchase the Caltex Service Station in
Tinwald from Norm Thompson. They later
bought the Caltex Service Station in
Ashburton on the corner of East Street and
Dobson Street. Caltex decided to close
down the service station side of their business
in Tinwald.
Mead Motors has remained
and is the mid Canterbury parts
and service agents for Hyundai as well as
Kumo tyres.
The Mead Motors Tinwald workshop
offers a full service and mechanical repairs,
lubes, and a warrant of fitness.
Robin Taylor is the office Manager of
Mead Motors Ltd and Pete Kilgour is the
workshop foreman.
